It’s 80 years since the US dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, leading to the end of World War Two.  The BBC met some of the last ‘Hibakusha’, survivors of the two atomic bombs who were children when the events took place and have suffered from devastating long term mental and physical effects. With the current threat of nuclear war looming, this documentary examines what we can learn now from the generation who survived near annhilation. 🔍 Animals kissing? Turns out Charles Dickens had it all wrong! A quick Google Images search will blow your mind with millions of adorable smooching moments in the animal kingdom. From moose brushing noses to turtles tapping heads, and even bats getting tongue-tied during courtship – they've got their own lip-locking game! 😘 But hold up, researchers can't quite crack the code of the emotional significance behind these animal smooches. Are they for survival, or just a cute display? 🤔 Humans, on the other hand, have their own unique style of lip action, and it's all about assessing potential mates! Our sense of smell and the exchange of saliva play a vital role. So next time you pucker up, remember, there's more to a kiss than meets the eye! 💋 #terramatters #terramater #AnimalsKissing #NatureNuzzles #EvolutionOfKisses #ChemicalAttraction #PuckerUp #LoveInTheAnimalKingdom

Our #Crew6 mission to the International Space Station is targeted for liftoff at 12:34 a.m. EST (0534 UTC) on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Feb. 27 launch attempt was scrubbed so mission teams could investigate a ground systems issue. NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Warren "Woody" Hoburg, as well as UAE (United Arab Emirates) astronaut Sultan Alneyadi and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, will launch aboard their Dragon Endeavour spacecraft atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Visit our Crew-6 blog for the latest mission updates: https://blogs.nasa.gov/crew-6/ This will be the fourth trip to space for Bowen, the Crew-6 mission commander, and the first space launch for the rest of the crew. They'll spend approximately six months on the station, helping us learn how to live in space while conducting research to make life better back on Earth. Learn more about the mission, its crew, and some of the science they'll be working on at https://go.nasa.gov/3jclMmJ. Following launch and ascent, NASA coverage of agency’s Crew-6 flight to the space station will temporarily switch to a streaming, audio-only feed accessible via YouTube, between ascent and the beginning of rendezvous operations. Viewers can continue to listen to real-time audio between Crew-6 and flight controllers at NASA’s Mission Audio stream (https://www.youtube.com/live/3slokO2g1v0), which also includes conversations with astronauts aboard the space station and a live video feed from the orbiting laboratory. The Mostviertel, Austria's pear country, stretches from the river Danube to the Alps, right in the heart of Austria. Pear trees are scattered across the landscape and produce 200 different kinds of pears. Their naturally tart fruits have been used for centuries to extract the delicious pear cider (perry). As production has grown over time, „Most", the Austrian name for cider, has given the charming region its name. From a geographical point of view, pear country is spared the climatic extremes of other Alpine regions in Austria and has thus become one of Europe's remaining sanctuaries for a variety of rare, altogether 3000 different -- including some endangered -- species: the little owl, the European otter, the hoopoe, or the curlew.
