#BBCAfricaEye investigates Johannesburg’s hijacked buildings, before the city’s G20 summit. Click here to subscribe to our channel 👉🏽 http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica In November 2025, Johannesburg will host a G20 summit for the leaders of the world's 20 largest economies. This will be the first time that a G20 meeting will be held on African soil. The world’s attention will be on Johannesburg, but is the city ready? Africa Eye reporter Ayanda Charlie investigates the inner city’s abandoned and derelict buildings, where many people live in conditions unfit for human habitation. After decades of decay and neglect, many of these buildings lack electricity, water or basic sanitation with open sewers a common sight. Worse still, some buildings are hijacked by criminals who take control and collect rent for themselves, turning them into havens for illicit activity,. The BBC has been able to identify the location of 102 of these abandoned and derelict buildings, but some reports say there are up to 700, in an area of only a few square miles. South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has spoken of the need to “turn around those abandoned buildings and take Johannesburg back to its glory days” but the scale of the challenge is enormous, leading many people to think his words are nothing more than a hollow appeal. 00:00 The President's Call to Action 03:00 A hijacked building 07:15 How did Johannesburg get so bad? 07:57 The Sheriff 09:45 Temporary accommodation that lasts 17 years 12:06 Meeting an ex-hijacker 16:45 The City Council responds 18:18 Illegal evictions and Operation Dudula 19:09 Meeting anti-eviction lawyers at SERI 20:28 Building at a stalemate 22:37 A legal eviction 📽️ You may also be interested in watching these documentaries: https://youtu.be/rogZ8BYg-kM https://youtu.be/Qk9HEzcFiZ4 https://youtu.be/QPB42_uLLh0 🎥 Check out all Africa Eye investigations here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLajyiGz4JeyO2qgCvioQO-BzP1XCajJqt 🎞️ Watch more investigative journalism from our award-winning #BBCEye investigations team at this documentary playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz_B0PFGIn4fa8LK1lptsvoA_spfJhzda *** Subscribe: http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica Website: https://www.bbc.com/africa Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bbcnewsafrica/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/bbcafrica/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bbcafrica/ #SouthAfrica #Documentary #Johannesburg #G20 #Joburg #Hijacked #InvestigativeJournalism

Dave Anderson is a bird of prey specialist. We followed him out into the Scottish highlands on his way to golden eagle nest. For conservation it is very important to know what the birds are up to, so they need to be tagged. With the tags the conservationists can follow the eagles via satellite and know where they travel and eventual settle down. With this the scientists can learn a lot of the species behaviour. To get to the chicks, for tagging and a heath check up, the conservationists need to climb a steep rock wall and carefully lift the eagle chick down to the ground. This one is sadly blind on one eye. Dave will never get old of seeing a golden eagle soar through the Scottish skies! #goldeneagles #eagles #terramater #terramatters #bird #birdlovers #behindthescenes #behindthelens #conservation #naturedocumentaries #amazing #wildlifedocumentary #nature #animal #wildlife #eaglecam #shorts #scotland #uk #greatbritain

Train today, perform tomorrow. ⁣ ⁣ On September 20, 2023 the Artemis II astronauts practiced some of the pre-launch procedures they’ll perfect before their slated 2024 launch to the Moon.⁣ ⁣ NASA Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen awoke at their crew quarters at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and put on test versions of the Orion Crew Survival System spacesuits they will wear on launch day. They then departed to Launch Pad 39B in NASA’s new crew transportation fleet. ⁣ ⁣ Upon arrival at the pad, the crew headed onto the mobile launcher and proceeded up the tower to the white room inside the crew access arm. There was no Orion spacecraft or Space Launch System rocket on the pad today, but on launch day this is where the crew will take their final Earth-bound steps prior to their journey around the Moon. ⁣ ⁣ Credit: NASA⁣
