The Heart of Christmas, Part 2
Elizabeth has been put in charge of the Christmas Committee. To make Christmas extra special, Elizabeth and the town has decided to pull together and build houses for every one of the settlers who lost their houses. Rosemary and Lee return to Hope Valley from their honeymoon. Lee gives Cody a baseball that he brought back from New York. Rosemary and Lee have even bigger news - they have bought the row house next to Elizabeth and are moving in!Frank helps with the settlers who have yet to be relocated to their new houses. All of the settlers are happy for Frank’s help, except for one settler - Nancy. Frank tries to reach out to Nancy but she rebuffs him. At the schoolhouse, the children are excited about the nativity play. The children want to know who will be playing what role in the play. Elizabeth says that the students who can be the most kind and caring will get the best roles. The children are also excited about the giving tree and the idea of presents. Gowen comes back into town; he let himself out of the hospital against doctor’s orders. Gowen is angry to learn that Abigail has become mayor. Frank spots Nancy and her son leaving town. Frank tries to stop Nancy from leaving, but he is unsuccessful. A traveling peddler, Sam, rides into town and the children think he’s Santa. Sam ends up helping Elizabeth and Faith come together for an evening of friendship. Meanwhile, Abigail is so overwhelmed with being mayor and the cafe that Bill offers to help in the cafe. Lee comes to Jack with a problem - the Christmas gift he bought for Rosemary, a brooch, has been stolen. Jack looks into the missing brooch and the clues lead him to Sam. Jack puts Sam in jail. However, Rosemary confesses that she is the one who took the brooch. Jack lets Sam out of jail. Frank is feeling lost - he feels like he failed Nancy. Sam gives Frank the bible he had in prison and inspires Frank to keep going. Then, Elizabeth hears that the train derailed coming to town, which means there won’t be any deliveries for Christmas. Elizabeth does not know what to do, she thinks Christmas is ruined. There won’t be any presents for the kids, there won’t be any food for the feast, and the costumes for the nativity play won’t get there in time. The town decides to stay up all night, pull together, and make toys by hand, make new costumes, and gather up what food they can to make Christmas happen. Meanwhile, Cody trades his new baseball to Sam for a Biddy Betsy doll for a settler. When Abigail finds out what Cody did for his friend, she’s touched. Sam also gives advice to Abigail on what she should give to Gowen. Abigail takes Sam’s advice and talks to Gowen, and the two make strides towards understanding each other better. Frank finds Nancy and her son, Harper, on the road. Frank tries to convince Nancy to come back to Hope Valley, but she is unresponsive. Then, Harper recites Saint Francis’ prayer and convinces his mom that they belong back in Hope Valley. At the nativity pageant, Frank returns with Nancy and Harper, then gives a sermon. Then Santa, (Bill in costume) comes in and gives presents to the children. Everyone goes off to a huge Christmas feast…all is well. The episode ends as Jack and Elizabeth have their own Mountie Ball in the saloon.
