The Brooklyn Tabernacle

God has brought the Brooklyn Tabernacle from a handful of members in a small rundown building in a difficult area to a congregation of more than ten thousand weekly attendees. Pastor Cymbala and his wife, Carol, who directs the popular Grammy Award–winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, have been used by the Lord not only to preach the gospel in the inner city of New York but also to see new churches grow out of the congregation across New York as well as domestically and internationally. The ministry of the church has from the outset reached out to the cross-cultural melting pot of New York City. It is comprised of men, women, and children of all ethnic and national origins. Central to the growth and expansion of the church, however, has been the continual emphasis on prayer, from the Tuesday night prayer meeting that is attended by thousands to the prayer band, made up of members of the church devoted to boldly calling on the Lord for needs from around the world.

In this devotional, we are reminded of the birthplace of Jesus—a dirty feeding trough in “Nowheresville.” Yet, like every other part of His life, Jesus’ humble earthly beginnings show us a wonderful truth about God—He cares about the broken, poor, and needy. He doesn’t just save the wealthy and privileged. Jesus was born, crucified, and resurrected for all of us. Hallelujah! Don’t miss a single daily devotional with Pastor Cymbala! Join Pastor Jim Cymbala for today’s daily devotional from Psalm 135. In this devotional, Pastor Cymbala urges us to worship the living God. We make idols out of everything—money, pleasure, status, social media. But idols are dead. They can’t see, hear, or speak to us. Why would we want to worship something with no life when we could worship the Creator God who can see, hear, and speak to us? Hallelujah, our Lord is alive! Glorious Patience | Pastor Jim Cymbala | Tuesday Prayer Meeting | The Brooklyn Tabernacle
People can be very aggravating. It is only by the Holy Spirit working within us that we can avoid lashing out at others sometimes! Our lives are testimonies of the Lord—we’d better handle things well. The Bible says that it is to our glory to overlook an offense. We Christians don’t pray for patience often enough. Let’s pray for patience from the Holy Spirit so that we can glorify God when altercations arise.
