For the people of the Sahara, owning a horse is a mark of status, a great pride. In villages of the dry savannah, children are taught to ride horses very young. They live a free and exciting cow boy life, watching after the family’s herd. This is the case of Hisseini, 11, who is soon to participate his first Grand Fantasia, a ritual horse race in which he will represent his village. But Hisseini has no one to train him. At the cattle market, Hisseini meets Stephanie, a French woman who manages an equestrian club. He makes friend with her right-hand man Abakar. Abakar agrees to help Hisseini and introduces him to the white man’s way of riding horses. Hisseini also meets Estelle, a 12 year old French girl, getting ready for her first jumping competition with Stephanie. In a nearby town, Moussa is working as a stable boy for Atanase, a Greek man who has trained horses and jockeys in Africa for over 20 years. Moussa dreams to become a jockey like his brother Adoum. Adoum is to run for the Ramadan competition in the town’s central square. In that race, most jockeys ride barefoot, with no saddle nor stirrups. The big day has arrived for Estelle, Adoum and Hisseini. They have to prove to their family that they are seasoned riders of the Sahara. Gun dogs, or bird dogs, are types of hunting dogs developed to assist hunters in finding and retrieving game, usually birds. Gun dogs are divided into three primary types: retrievers, flushing dogs, and pointing breeds. Sennenhund, called Swiss mountain dogs or Swiss cattle dogs in English, are a type of dog originating in the Swiss Alps. The Sennenhund are farm dogs of the general molosser type. There are four breeds of Sennenhund, all sporting a unique tricolor coat. While the two larger ones share a heavy build and a calm temperament, the two smaller ones are more agile. The breeds range from medium in size to very large. The name Sennenhund refers to people called Senn or Senner, Swiss alpine herdsmen and dairymen, and does not translate as "mountain" or "cattle". The French Bulldog is a small breed of domestic dog. "Frenchies" were the result in the 1800s of a cross between bulldog ancestors imported from England and local ratters in Paris (France). In 2014, they were the fourth most popular registered dog in the United Kingdom and in the U.S. the ninth most popular AKC registered dog breed. Character: Lively, playful, sporty and alert. Particularly affectionate with its master and with children. Particularity: The little bulldog became popular worldwide after an example called “Snob” was taken to Vienna by Prince Coburg in 1888, thus introducing the breed at court. Jennifer Lee, Senior Economist at BMO Capital Markets, discusses her economic outlook as the BLS postpones January jobs data, and her expectations for a Kevin Warsh-led Federal Reserve. The Bureau of Labor Statistics will not release the January jobs report on Friday as scheduled due to the partial government shutdown.  “The release will be rescheduled upon the resumption of government funding,” Emily Liddel, BLS associate commissioner for publications and special studies, said in a statement. “Due to the partial federal government shutdown, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will suspend data collection, processing, and dissemination.” Other reports planned for this week, including December’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey and the Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment release, will also be rescheduled. BLS is housed within the Labor Department, which, along with some other government agencies, was only funded through Jan. 30. While the Senate has voted to extend funding, the bill still needs to pass the House of Representatives. House Speaker Mike Johnson said he hopes the House will pass the measure on Tuesday. In addition to the usual monthly payrolls and unemployment data, the January employment report also includes highly anticipated revisions to annual employment. In Belfast, the buses were driven by Protestants, who refused to risk their lives in these republican areas. The people were so organized, they bought old taxis to make their transit. These taxis are still today their privileged transportation, 7/7, from morning to night, plying the same route. Riding a Black Taxi is one of the few possible jobs for former prisoners. Moreover, this Community transport system was also created in order to give them work. These trips represent confinement and lack of horizon of a generation that has spent the first half of his life in war, in combat or in prison. Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa defended the country's economic track in the wake of a recent slump in the rupiah and local stocks. In a conversation with Bloomberg's Haslinda Amin at a business forum in Jakarta, the minister criticized Citigroup Inc. for a report that said the nation's budget deficit could breach the legal limit this year.
