The Brooklyn Tabernacle

God has brought the Brooklyn Tabernacle from a handful of members in a small rundown building in a difficult area to a congregation of more than ten thousand weekly attendees. Pastor Cymbala and his wife, Carol, who directs the popular Grammy Award–winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, have been used by the Lord not only to preach the gospel in the inner city of New York but also to see new churches grow out of the congregation across New York as well as domestically and internationally. The ministry of the church has from the outset reached out to the cross-cultural melting pot of New York City. It is comprised of men, women, and children of all ethnic and national origins. Central to the growth and expansion of the church, however, has been the continual emphasis on prayer, from the Tuesday night prayer meeting that is attended by thousands to the prayer band, made up of members of the church devoted to boldly calling on the Lord for needs from around the world.

Many of us equate God’s mercy with how much “good” we do for Him. But in reality, there’s nothing we can do to earn God’s love and mercy, because Jesus already paid for them by His death on the cross! Jesus taught that it’s not the person who keeps all the rules who wins God’s favor. Instead, it’s the one who is poor in spirit. Let’s go low and see God pour out His blessing on us. Sleep | Pastor Jim Cymbala | Sunday Service | The Brooklyn Tabernacle
We need to wake up—spiritually! Sleep is a need for our physical bodies, but if we fall asleep spiritually, we’re in danger. The cares of the world can make us lethargic toward eternal realities. We must wake up and see that the world around us is full of lost and dying people! It’s not time to sleep; it’s time for us to share the gospel. Join Pastor Jim Cymbala for today’s daily devotional from Psalm 141. In this devotional, Pastor Cymbala encourages us to receive godly correction. Most of us don’t like to be chided or admonished. Many people say that if someone corrects them, they must not love them .But it’s the opposite! It's because God loves us that He gives us chastisement, or correction. A wise person will receive that and change his or her words or behavior. Today let’s pray for the wisdom to welcome correction from our heavenly Father. Join Pastor Jim Cymbala for today’s daily devotional from Psalm 140. Our words have the power to give life or death. In a world full of social media rampages, we’ve all seen the tragedies that venomous words can cause. Why do we feel the need to tear others down when we could lift them up instead? One day we will be judged by God for every word we’ve ever said. We must seek the Lord and be filled with His Spirit so that our words can be sweet, not poisonous. How many people in your life think of you as a blessing? In the Bible, God blessed Abraham so that Abraham would be a blessing to others. It's the same with us. God doesn't bless us just to make us happy. He blesses us so we can let His goodness flow through us to touch other people. Our actions are an advertisement of God to those around us. Let's not hold God's blessings tightly. Let's bless others and make the idea of God attractive to them.
