What to Know as US, Japan Start Tariff Negotiations
The US and Japan have begun tariff talks with an aim to reach a deal as soon as possible. While there is no immediate halt on the tariffs, Japan’s top negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, says preparations are underway for a second round of negotiations later this month. US President Donald Trump says both parties have made "big progress" as he personally meets with the Japanese delegation in Washington. But Akazawa says they did not discuss currency issues. Bloomberg's The China Show reports on the latest. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? Brazilian Adhemar Ferreira da Silva Wins Triple Jump Gold - Helsinki 1952 Olympics
📲 Subscribe to @olympics: http://oly.ch/Subscribe Brazil's Adhemar Ferreira da Silva wins the gold medal in the men's triple jump event at the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games - Classic Highlights. As a young man, Adhemar Ferreira da Silva once said he wanted to be an athlete. Not only did he become an athlete, but one the most iconic Olympic athletes Brazil has ever had. As he arrived in Helsinki for the 1952 Summer Games, Adhemar quickly won over the local fans. As he disembarked, he surprised everyone playing his guitar and singing in Finnish. The gesture made him an immediate favourite of the local fans. During the triple jump competition, he did not disappoint his supporters and with an incredible performance reached 16.22 metres, 24 centimetres ahead of Leonid Shcherbakov (15.98m) from the Soviet Union, who took second place. Arnaldo Devonish from Venezuela took the bronze medal. To thank the Finnish crowd who had welcomed and supported him throughout the competition Adhemar ran a lap around the track, greeting the fans who filled the stadium. His victory lap would later become a gesture many Olympic champions would repeat after him. The Brazilian triple jumper would come back to the Olympic Games in Melbourne four years later and defend his title successfully, becoming Brazil's only double individual Olympic champion to date. There are not many Olympic feats that survive over 50 years without being surpassed by future generations. Pierre Jonquères d'Oriola's achievement at the Tokyo 1964 Games is one of those which actually still does. Pierre Jonquères d'Oriola first won the Olympic Equestrian jumping competition at the Helsinki 1952 Summer Games. Twelve years later, riding Lutteur B, the Frenchman once again beat all other competitor pairs and took the highest step on the podium. Until the start of the Rio 2016 Olympics, no other equestrian jumping athlete will have won two individual Olympic gold medals. Over 50 years later, will someone repeat d'Oriola's feat?
