The modern pentathlon was introduced by Baron de Coubertin at the Stockholm Games in 1912, comprising pistol shooting, fencing, swimming, horse riding and running. It was his belief that this event would test "a man's moral qualities as much as his physical resources and skills, producing thereby a complete athlete." From 1912 to 1980, the Olympic modern pentathlon was held over five days with one event per day. Now, the event is held over one day. Competitors score points in the first three events, which decide their starting position for the final combined event, composed of the shooting and running disciplines. The first one over the line wins the gold medal. President Donald Trump has promised 25% levies on all cars not made in the US. The new tariffs will hit German automakers in particular. Sigrid de Vries, Director General of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), says she would like to see a "balanced response" from the European Union. GameStop Corp., the struggling video-game retailer that became a favorite of retail traders during the meme stock frenzy in 2021, said its board has approved a plan to add Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset. The Grapevine, Texas-based firm is joining a growing list of public companies experimenting with using corporate cash or borrowed money to buy the digital asset in a bid to capitalize on the surge in Bitcoin. The gambit was pioneered by Michael Saylor’s Strategy, the enterprise software company formally known as MicroStrategy that has acquired more than $40 billion in Bitcoin and seen its share price soar. Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles.
