The conflict in Gaza has left contaminated soil, blackened water and mounds of garbage spreading disease and pollution. Waste has been piling up in nearly 350 sites in Gaza since the war between Israel and Hamas began in October 2023, according to a Bloomberg News analysis of high resolution satellite imagery from June 2025.
