Menopause is a topic that is rarely spoken about in many cultures and communities yet impacts around 50% of the world’s population. The menopause is when women's periods stop. When periods haven't happened for 12 months, you can look back and say you've been through the menopause (the last period). For some, it can happen earlier - either naturally, or after treatment for another condition. This signals the end of the reproductive years and the start of a new phase of life. Now, the globally recognised ‘World Menopause Day’ is seeking to change that and open up the conversation on the topic. Whilst this is a great start, there are a few false truths floating about when it comes to menopause, so how much of what we know to be true is really fact? The mother of a black girl who was not given a medal at an Irish gymnastics event ceremony told the BBC's Stephanie Hegarty the apology she has received is "useless". A video emerged recently showing the alleged racist treatment of a young black gymnast being ignored by an official who was handing out medals at an event in Dublin last year. The mother said watching the incident unfold at the time was "horrendous". Gymnastics Ireland apologised on Monday "for the upset that has been caused". In Niger, after a two month stand-off between the junta and France, the French ambassador has left the country and French troops are getting ready to pull out. Emmanuel Macron said he’d taken the decision to leave the country because Niger was no longer interested in fighting terrorism.
