In Sochi, while Jeremy Abbott skated the short program in the team event, a 19-year-old figure skater shone at the Olympics, representing the United States. His name: Jason Brown. Brown was assigned to the free program and placed fourth. He and team USA were awarded the bronze medal. In the singles event, Brown was in sixth place after the short program but less than a point off third. He placed eleventh in the free skate and finished ninth overall.
