Miami Resort | Building Demolition | BlowDown | S01 E03 | Free Documentary
Miami Resort Demolition: Blowdown is an explosive four part series profiling some of the most challenging projects of Controlled Demolition Inc of Phoenix, Maryland. Each of the structures, some notable, others notorious is unique and present the team with challenges ranging from the structural, to the explosive and to the bureaucratic. In this episode, the team from CDI travels to Bal Harbour, in Miami Beach Florida to take down an old resort complex set in the middle of some of Florida’s most expensive real estate. The Sheraton Bal Harbour Beach Resort played host to Frank Sinatra and John F Kennedy, just days before his assassination. Designed during the post World War II boom the Sheraton was one of North America’s first luxury resorts. Over the years the shine on the resort’s crown tarnished and developers purchased the property to make way for a billion dollar condominium/hotel development. The stars of the film are the two major structures that make up the core of the resort’s property: a 17 storey hotel tower, and a 12 storey parking complex with hotel rooms on the top floors. The demolition team struggles with the proximity of the neighbors – one set are just 18 feet away – and the difficulty of undermining a structure built to withstand hurricane forces. To bring the two towers down the team will use both dynamite and shaped charges - over 500 pounds of blasting power. The shaped charges are high velocity explosives – the same technology they employ is used in armor piercing shells and warheads. The team uses the charges to cut structural steel found inside the towers. The team comes in to work the Miami job strait from another demolition: the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas. They have just ten days to prepare, load and implode the resort complex. Major concerns are the proximity of the neighbors, undermining the structural steel in the resort towers, and the dust cloud created by the implosion. __________________________________________________________ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI __________________________________________________________ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #BlowDown __________________________________________________________ Free Documentary is dedicated to bring high-class documentaries to you on youtube for free. Vegas Casino Frontier Hotel | Building Demolition | BlowDown | S01 E02| Free Documentary
Las Vegas Casino Demolition: Blowdown is an explosive four part building demolition series profiling some of the most challenging projects of Controlled Demolition Inc of Phoenix, Maryland. Each of the structures, some notable, others notorious, is unique and present the team with challenges ranging from the structural, to the explosive and to the bureaucratic. In this episode the team from CDI descends on Las Vegas to take down the Frontier Hotel and Casino landmark using 5000 sticks of dynamite. A vintage Vegas structure, the Frontier was the second hotel to be built on the strip and hosted notable performers like Elvis, the Supremes and Seigfried and Roy. Recently purchased for 1.2 billion dollars, the hotel is being imploded to make way for a reconstruction of New York's Plaza Hotel. But unlike most demolitions, in most cities, anything that happens in Vegas is part of a larger spectacle, so not only is the demo team contending with taking down the building, but in working around more than 1,600 kg of fireworks and pyrotechnics which will be used in the pre-demo show. Despite its diminutive stature, the team expects to use in excess of 1,000 kg of dynamite, more than the team used to bring down the 32 story Stardust hotel earlier in the year. The team is challenged by a lack of accurate blueprints and the concentration of rebar that threatens the operation. As they drill the holes to load the dynamite massive amounts of re-bar are found, preventing proper placement of dynamite and to add further complication, they come across toxic asbestos within the hotel walls. So with only days to go before the implosion, CDI rethinks the demo plan and attacks the structure by pre-weakening it. Heavy-duty drills and skid-steers equipped with jack-hammers cut the support walls. They plan an innovative technique using cables to ensure that the building will fall in the direction they want it to. The cables are wrapped around an end of the structure and attached to the elevator shaft inside the hotel. The plan is to pull the wall away from the neighbouring roadway and into the fall zone. The implosion is set for 2:30 am, and the fireworks technicians will warm up the Vegas crowd for the grand finale turning the historical Frontier into a pile of rubble. __________________________________________________________ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI __________________________________________________________ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #BlowDown __________________________________________________________ Free Documentary is dedicated to bring high-class documentaries to you on youtube for free. Nuclear Reactor Cooling Towers | Building Demolition | BlowDown | S01 E01| Free Documentary
Nuclear Reactor Cooling Towers Demolition: Blowdown is an explosive four part building demolition series profiling some of the most challenging projects of Controlled Demolition Inc of Phoenix, Maryland. Each of the structures, some notable, others notorious is unique and present the team with challenges ranging from the structural, to the explosive and to the bureaucratic. In episode one, the team from CDI travels to Sellafield, England to take down four outdated cooling towers on the site of the world’s first commercial nuclear reactor. Sellafield has a long history of nuclear incidents and mishaps dating back to the infamous Windscale Fire in 1957. Sellafield now stores and treats nuclear waste and is home to 90% of Britain’s industrial radioactivity. The tension is increased by the fact that explosives have never been used on an active nuclear site in the United Kingdom before and it has taken four years to overcome the bureaucratic hurdles. The subjects of the film are four nuclear cooling towers. Each one is 88 m high and has an estimated mass of 5,200 tons. Of particular concern is the fact that the towers are only 40 meters away from a nuclear fuel handling plant. There has been a steady deterioration of the towers and there is the concern of an inadvertent collapse. Explosive demolition has been determined to be the safest and most cost effective means of removing the towers. Each of the towers will be loaded with three sets of explosives. The first set will be in the legs of the towers, encircling 60% of the circumference. The second set will be set in a predrilled band around the same 60% approximately 20 m up. Charges will also be loaded into 3 vertical slots about 10 meters high which should cause the concrete shells of the towers to deform, rotate and collapse within the drop zone. With just 10 days to load all four towers, the team struggles safely load and rig more than 4,500 charges and time the explosions to minimize the risks to the surrounding site. The team must evaluate each risk, real or imagined and account for it in the plan. Major concerns are projectiles, ground vibration and air over pressure that could compromise operations at the nuclear facility. __________________________________________________________ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI __________________________________________________________ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #BlowDown __________________________________________________________ Free Documentary is dedicated to bring high-class documentaries to you on youtube for free.
