Now Kawae is heading up an interdisciplinary approach to studying the pyramids, collaborating with computer scientists and mathematicians to collect 3-D data that will provide a new perspective of the stunning structures—with the hope of learning more about the people who built them, how they built them, and why. How is the Redistricting Wave Impacting Black Voters?
Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette Clarke, Democratic Representative from New York, says Louisiana’s new congressional map eliminating a majority-Black district is part of a broader redistricting push that is “devastating” for Black political representation. She says Democrats must fight the effort in court and through legislation, arguing her party cannot “sit back” as Republicans redraw maps to protect their House majority. She speaks with Kailey Leinz and Joe Mathieu on the late edition of Bloomberg’s "Balance of Power." -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? Switzerland may try to cap its population at 10 million people
Switzerland will vote on a plan to cap the population at 10 million, requiring a severe reduction in immigration, which could affect businesses that rely on international talent. #switzerland #europe #politics #worldnews The proposal has alarmed executives in Switzerland's blue-chip firms, who say reliable access to international talent is critical for businesses and that the cap could lead to a rupture with the European Union. The population cap could curb output by as much as 12% through the end of the century, with labor shortages particularly hitting industries such as healthcare, hospitality, IT, and construction. Cubans Protest Raúl Castro Indictment at US Embassy in Havana
Crowds gathered outside the US Embassy in Havana on Friday, May 22, after US authorities announced charges against former Cuban president Raul Castro tied to the 1996 downing of two civilian planes. The charges against Castro and five other people include conspiring to kill US citizens, destruction of aircraft and murder, according to the indictment. The move against Castro is seen as an attempt by the Trump administration to force change on the island, and may fuel speculation that the US is preparing to launch military action against Cuba. Native to Mexico, the axolotl is an unusual amphibian that has deep roots in Aztec mythology. According to legend, this “water monster” was a god who disguised himself as a salamander to avoid sacrifice. Nowadays, it is critically endangered in the wild because of the pollution and urban sprawl that threaten its habitat in the Mexican Basin. Scientists and local people have joined together to save the axolotl from extinction. Through a breeding program, new colonies of axolotls are released into a restricted area where they can thrive under close monitoring. The hope is for this species to repopulate and survive in its natural environment.
