Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel talks with Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw about his ABC suspension, the future of late-night TV and the stakes of satire in today’s divided political climate at Bloomberg Screentime in Los Angeles. Kimmel said his comments about Charlie Kirk's killing were "intentionally and maliciously mischaracterized" by the political right, and he declined to say whether he will continue hosting the show after his contract is up in May. Israel and Hamas have reached a deal for the release of all hostages held by the militant group in Gaza, a major step toward ending a two-year war that’s devastated the Palestinian territory and triggered multiple conflicts in the Middle East as well as protests across the world. The agreement was reached early on Thursday after several days of indirect negotiations between the warring sides in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh. The ongoing talks were brokered by the US, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey and based on a plan unveiled by US President Donald Trump last week. In France, President Emmanuel Macron said he’ll name a new prime minister by Friday evening, having for the time being avoided the need to call a snap election that would have deepened the political chaos in France. Outgoing Premier Sebastien Lecornu, who was tasked by Macron on Monday to negotiate with the political groups in the National Assembly, said sufficient progress had been made to allow work to begin on forming a new cabinet. Israel and Hamas have agreed to terms for the release of all hostages held by the Palestinian militant group in Gaza, a major breakthrough in the US- and Qatari-brokered negotiations to end their two-year war. The deal is expected to see Hamas free the roughly 20 people taken during the October 2023 attacks that are still alive, alongside the remains of more than two dozen who died in captivity. Israel would release almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners along with the troop movement, while aid to Gaza will be resumed. Trump, in a Fox News interview, said he expects the hostages to be released “probably” on Monday. HSBC proposed taking its troubled Hong Kong subsidiary Hang Seng Bank Ltd. private in a deal representing a major bet on the Chinese financial hub. The British lender’s shares plunged. HSBC, which owns about 63% of Hang Seng, will spend about $14 billion buying the shares it doesn’t already hold. The HK$155 offer price, which values the unit at $37 billion, represents a 30% premium to Hang Seng’s closing share price on Wednesday.
