A gigantic pop-up fair complete with beer halls, roller coasters and booths on an area the size of 50 football fields. During the two-week festival, more than six million visitors flock to the 38 marquees, 170 rides, booths and shops. Something for everyone. Ten weeks are needed for project Octoberfest on a dedicated fairground near the Olympia Stadium. There must be no delays during assembly. Everything must be in place on opening day. We'll be there when a new team sets up the largest festival tent, the Hofbräu tent, for the first time. The new team is expecting around 100 truckloads of unknown material and hundreds of thousands of individual parts in the next few weeks. It goes without saying that nerves are stretched taut and tension is running high. Missing elements or faulty assembly put the timely completion of the work in great danger. We also accompany the construction of the largest transportable roller coaster in the world with five giant loops. 50 truckloads must be assembled in 20 days and inspected by TÜV. At dizzying heights, the workers have to join the steel parts weighing tons. Don’t forget the time pressure element. In spite of everything, the crane operator must remain calm. One manoeuvre too fast and he could kill a worker with the three to four tonne parts. Giant Pop-Up Constructions: Railway Underpass in 5 Hours | 4K Construction Documentary World’s Most Extreme Railway: https://youtu.be/uTSpdD6MswA The location: somewhere in India. The weather: steaming hot. Not your ideal preconditions for an outdoor project of impossible proportions: constructing a railway underpass in five hours. Is it even possible to build a complete railway underpass in that short amount of time? Provided 150 workers, six excavators, and two heavy-duty cranes, all work in perfect coordination and planning, it is. Everything must be meticulously prepared. Within these five hours, there is no time to reposition machines and tools. For two months, the construction plan and structural analysis were adapted and optimized based on the material properties. The clock is ticking. The Indian railway halts all train traffic at Bobbili station for five hours - not a minute more. The trains will not wait. If they do not manage to reconnect the tracks in time, the trains will derail. All construction teams work simultaneously: Team #1 removes all the gravel under the tracks, team two removes tracks and cuts through the two outer tracks. Then, the earth is dug out to make room for the underpass. Four tracks have to be laid. A distance of eight meters. Before the first train can roll again, everything has to be finished. Remember: we’re talking 40 degrees in the shade. Any mistake will quickly mean that construction workers will be injured or buried alive. They can easily get caught on the exposed 25-kilovolt power cables. It was 85 acres of land from Knutsford Boulevard to Oxford Road where horse racing and polo matches were held. When the race track was closed down in the mid-sixties, the area remained as a large, dusty vacant lot on which learner drivers practiced. In the 1600s Port Royal was the capital of trade and the largest residential area of the Island. In 1692 when a massive earthquake destroyed Port Royal, the settlers and residents of the area had little desire to rebuild and thus realized the value of the land across the harbour known as the Liguanea Plain. At the time of the earthquake, there were around 8 or 9 houses on some 530 acres of land in the Liguanea Plain. Immigrants gradually started to migrate to Kingston and it continued to grow until January 1907, when a second earthquake followed by a catastrophic fire that lead it to a sudden halt of development. Much of Downtown Kingston was destroyed. Almost 1500 people died and over a million dollars worth of property damage was incurred. Trying to recover and rebuild, people wanted to move out of the old city and they looked to the merchants who owned much of the land bordering the city. They were sitting on gold mines.
