Building the World's Biggest Ships | Heavy Lift: Jumboisation | Free Documentary
Heavy Lift - Jumboisation | Engineering Documentary Heavy Lift - Giant 7-Billion-Euro Flood Barrier in Venice: https://youtu.be/cVNfTgsp44k How does a huge stadium roof, a surge barrier or a out of service cruise liner get from one place to another? This series tells the story of how huge objects move and this episode is about the process of stretching a ship: called jumboisation. If Archimedes said “Give me a lever and I will move the world”, today the answer is usually wheels and hydraulics. Lifting and moving massive machinery or structures is the speciality of a handful of companies and the equipment they use is often tailor made for the job, be they cranes, trailers, flatbeds, barges, and even ship carriers. Today the cruise industry is demanding bigger and bigger ships, since more passengers means more dollars. Instead of building expensive new ships, many companies are choosing to simply cut their old ships in half and stretch them to make them bigger. The process is called “jumboisation” and the world’s heavy lift companies are busy learning the best way to make ships bigger. It is a complex big engineering task. The cruise liners of today are two football pitches long and can weigh up to 50 thousand tonnes. Of course in the sea, weight is no issue, but what about when they have to be hauled into dry dock and cut in half? That’s where the world’s heavy lift companies come in. The program follows Heavy Lift company Fagioli of Italy, as they stretch a ship belonging to the MSC line along with leading cruise ship builder, Fincantieri in the Mediterranean port of Palermo. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Instagram: https://instagram.com/free.documentary/ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #HeavyLift ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bringing high-class documentaries to you on YouTube for free. Somewhere on Earth - Bolivia | Free Documentary Somewhere on Earth - Chile: https://youtu.be/CzLYSWGGLmY Bolivia is the heart of the South American continent, a land of volcanoes and tropical jungles, where the sounds, the aromas and the colors are in harmony with a people descended from the Ancient Incas. With its rugged, dusty hues…. it’s also the land of colorful lakes, in the midst of the Andes mountains. Erwann Guégan, a Frenchman who’s been living in Bolivia for 2 years. In Maipiri, a little village on the edge of the Amazon Basin, Erwann has been working on a project here that he is quite committed to the construction of a landing strip to open up the region and thus allow medical evacuations. For now, there’s no train or plane to access the valleys of the Yungas region, only a steep, twisting road and collective taxis crammed to the limit by their drivers. Photography and archeology are Gabriela Escobar’s two passions in life. She quite naturally brought them together in one vast project: she travels the length and breadth of Bolivia to photograph every archeological site in the country, thus building up an inestimable data base for historians the world over. During her travels, she recaptures the poetry of the books that used to make her dream in her childhood. The brothers Miguel and Diego Morales have set up a little company that organizes paragliding flights and mountain treks. Not long ago Miguel had a serious paragliding accident. When he got out of the hospital it was his brother Diego who encouraged him to start flying again. For Miguel’s comeback flight they gave themselves a challenge: to fly over the Salar de Uyuni, the vast salt flat in the far south west of the country. What is it they’re hoping to share together? Tons of dust, encounters and adventures in the country’s high altitude deserts. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Instagram: https://instagram.com/free.documentary/ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #SomewhereOnEarth ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bringing high-class documentaries to you on YouTube for free. Heavy Lift - An-225: The Antonov Dream | Engineering Documentary Manufacturing an Airbus A350: https://youtu.be/Yutzg2NLwcU The Antonov An 225 Myra was the world's largest plane, and only one example was ever built. Exclusively filmed in the Antonov factory in Kiev, this documentary tells the story of the development of the aircraft on the basis of the worlds second largest plane, the An 125. The Myra was built to carry Russia's version of the Space shuttle – the Buran. All this of course before the break-up of the Soviet Union. The program features exciting walk-around footage of the Mrya and interviews with the engineers who built it. We take the viewer back to the days when carrying military equipment far and fast was the key to success in a potential third world war. That conflict never happened but since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the rise of an independent Ukraine, the Antonov desiogn bureau and factory, and Antonov Airlines company have provided some of the most impressive transport over the last decade, contracted by governments to move emergency relief supplies, military equipment and industrial parts. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Instagram: https://instagram.com/free.documentary/ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #HeavyLift ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bringing high-class documentaries to you on YouTube for free. Costa Concordia: The Whole Story - Rescue and Salvage | Part 2 | Free Documentary Costa Concordia: The Whole Story | Part 1: https://youtu.be/z17xqYzURXg In depth description of advanced search and rescue operations to recover survivors and victims from the Costa Concordia as well as the technology and engineering behind the epic, historical salvage operation to refloat the massive ship intact and tow it away. The whole story behind the catastrophic sinking of the Costa Concordia in January 2012 – an amazing tale of errors and missteps that led to one of the biggest shipwrecks since the Titanic. For the first time, Discovery tells the whole story of the dream-ship that turned into a nightmare – from the horrific night in January to the epic salvage operation under way today. The production team visited 10 different countries to meet the survivors and the families of victims, as well as shipping experts and salvage masters. The harrowing human story and the fascinating feats of engineering come together in this beautifully shot mini-series. Using innovative filming techniques, including micro-drones and underwater film, the amazing story is told from beginning to end. The film was made possible through the producers' unparalleled access to survivors, rescue units and the highest Italian coast guard and fire brigade authorities as well as the islanders who rescued the survivors so they could live to tell their stories. But the whole story of the Costa Concordia goes far beyond the drama of the 13th January, or even the historic salvage underway, it is also about millions of dollars at stake, for the engineers working on the historic salvage, for the cruise industry that must address serious lapses in sea safety, and for the families who will never be the same since they set foot on the Costa Concordia that fateful night. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Instagram: https://instagram.com/free.documentary/ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #CostaConcordia ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bringing high-class documentaries to you on YouTube for free.
