Cambricon Aims to Replace Nvidia in China, ADP Report Boosts Rate-Cut Bets | The Opening Trade 12/4
Cambricon Technologies plans to more than triple its production of AI chips in 2026, aiming to wrest market share from Huawei Technologies in China and fill a void left by Nvidia's forced exit. Hegseth says he watched the first strike on a drug boat
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he wasn’t watching when a top US admiral ordered a second strike on an alleged drug-running boat on Sept. 2, which prompted accusations of possible war crimes. “As you can imagine, at the Department of War, we got a lot of things to do, so I didn’t stick around for the hour and two hours, whatever, where all the sensitive site exploitation digitally occurs,” he said. Of any confusion or criticism of the attack, Hegseth said “this is called the fog of war.” “This is what you and the press don’t understand,” Hegseth said as Trump looked on. “You sit in your air conditioned offices, you’re up on Capitol Hill, and you nitpick.” Read more: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-12-02/admiral-at-center-of-venezuela-boat-strikes-to-brief-us-senators ---------- Like this video? China's Xi hosts French President Macron #china #war #shorts
French President Emmanuel Macron will lobby his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, this week to try to avert tariffs on dairy and pork exports to China. France has resolved some outstanding trade disagreements with China, including on Cognac, according to a French official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. But tariffs on dairy and pork are still at risk and will be a focus of French discussions in China. Beijing is weighing the duties as possible retaliation for the European Union’s decision last year to impose tariffs as high as 45% on Chinese-made electric vehicles, a move that was backed by Paris. French agriculture exports to China have dropped by around 20% to €3 billion, according to the French Treasury. Trump Outlines Plan to Unwind Biden Era Car Mileage Mandates
President Donald Trump unveiled his administration’s plan to relax stringent Biden-era fuel efficiency standards, casting the change as a way to lower consumer costs. “Today my administration is taking historic action to lower costs for American consumers, protect American auto jobs and make buying a car much more affordable for countless American families — and also safer,” Trump said in an Oval Office event Wednesday with representatives from Detroit’s major automakers. Trump was joined by Stellantis NV Chief Executive Officer Antonio Filosa, Ford Motor Co. CEO Jim Farley and John Urbanic, plant manager at General Motors Co.’s Orion Assembly plant outside Detroit. War on Drugs: Hegseth says more narco boats will be targeted #shorts
The White House defended the Pentagon's handling of a September attack on an alleged drug-running boat and denied that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had given an order to kill everyone on the vessel. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said the order for the second strike came from US Navy Admiral Frank Bradley and that the actions were lawful amid a deadly domestic opioid crisis in the US. Bipartisan leaders of the House and Senate armed services committees said they would investigate reports of the second strike, with Senator Roger Wicker stating that they would talk to the admiral in charge and investigate the facts.
