The Brooklyn Tabernacle

God has brought the Brooklyn Tabernacle from a handful of members in a small rundown building in a difficult area to a congregation of more than ten thousand weekly attendees. Pastor Cymbala and his wife, Carol, who directs the popular Grammy Award–winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, have been used by the Lord not only to preach the gospel in the inner city of New York but also to see new churches grow out of the congregation across New York as well as domestically and internationally. The ministry of the church has from the outset reached out to the cross-cultural melting pot of New York City. It is comprised of men, women, and children of all ethnic and national origins. Central to the growth and expansion of the church, however, has been the continual emphasis on prayer, from the Tuesday night prayer meeting that is attended by thousands to the prayer band, made up of members of the church devoted to boldly calling on the Lord for needs from around the world.

Most of us are focused on our own interests—our friends, our cultures, our comfort zones. But God is looking for people who look out for the interests of Jesus Christ! And what are Jesus’ interests? People. That’s who He died for. Let’s ask Jesus to give us hearts like His—willing to love and serve others over ourselves. Jesus is alive! Everything we go through—all the heartaches, rejections, worries, and trials—He sees. Just as He walked with two men on the road to Emmaus after He rose and opened their understanding, so Jesus wants to walk next to us through life. He is never far away! He gives us understanding of God’s Word so we can deepen our relationships with Him. Let’s ask Him for understanding and fellowship today! The Answer for Temptation | Pastor Jim Cymbala | Tuesday Prayer Meeting | The Brooklyn Tabernacle
Christians face temptation. Jealousy, fear, lust, pride, and all kinds of sins tempt us every day. But even when we want to overcome, we are weak. How do we get victory? Not by just going to church, then we likely will fail. We need to read our Bibles. We need to pray. The only way to beat temptation is to spend time with Jesus—seeking Him, praying often. Let’s ask God to help us do that today. Our circumstances can often make us anxious, depressed, moody, or ungrateful. But here’s a secret: we can be content instead. How? By realizing that we can’t change the storms of our daily lives. But God can lift us up to where we won’t be affected by them anymore. We must ask the Holy Spirit to fill us with contentment so that we can rise above our circumstances and glorify the Lord. Join Pastor Jim Cymbala for today’s daily devotional from 1 Timothy 4:13–14. In this devotional, Pastor Cymbala reminds us to be diligent about discerning true prophecy. If what someone speaks over us or loudly declares does not align with Scripture, we know to turn the other way. Don’t miss a single daily devotional with Pastor Cymbala! Join Pastor Jim Cymbala for today’s daily devotional from 1 Timothy 4:12–13. We don’t have to be trained pastors to share the gospel with others. People watch us every day—how we act, talk, dress. Are we sharing with them how God works in our lives? Some of us are called to proclaim to large crowds, while others might share one-on-one on the subway. Wherever we are, let’s talk about Jesus.
