The impact of the shutdown on airlines and air traffic controllers
Representative Sam Graves (R-MO) discusses the issues he has had traveling and explains that further travel and air traffic issues will occur as the government shutdown continues. He talks about if there is anything Congress can do to alleviate these pressures while workers aren't getting paid and how holiday travel may become a "disaster" if the shutdown persists. Representative Graves speaks with Joe Mathieu on the late edition of Bloomberg's "Balance of Power." -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? AWS Cloud Business Is the Bright spot in earnings for Amazon #tech
Amazon’s cloud unit posted the strongest growth rate in almost three years, reassuring investors who were concerned that the largest seller of rented computing power was losing ground to rivals.  Amazon Web Services posted revenue of $33 billion, an increase of 20% from the prior year and the biggest year-over-year rise since the end of 2022. Analysts, on average, estimated 18% growth.  Investor expectations for the cloud business were relatively low heading into Thursday’s report after the company in recent quarters cited constraints in getting new data centers online. Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy and other executives had said they were optimistic about the business, though they stopped short of forecasting a reacceleration of growth. Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Analyst for E-Commerce and Athleisure Poonam Goyal and Bloomberg Tech Co-Host Ed Ludlow join Bloomberg Businessweek Daily to discuss. They speak with Carol Massar and Tim Stenovec. -------- Watch Bloomberg Radio LIVE on YouTube Weekdays 7am-6pm ET WATCH HERE: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF Follow us on X: https://twitter.com/BloombergRadio Subscribe to our Podcasts: Bloomberg Daybreak: http://bit.ly/3DWYoAN Bloomberg Surveillance: http://bit.ly/3OPtReI Bloomberg Intelligence: http://bit.ly/3YrBfOi Balance of Power: http://bit.ly/3OO8eLC Bloomberg Businessweek: http://bit.ly/3IPl60i Listen on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the Bloomberg Business app: Apple CarPlay: https://apple.co/486mghI Android Auto: https://bit.ly/49benZy Visit our YouTube channels: Bloomberg Podcasts: https://www.youtube.com/bloombergpodcasts Bloomberg Television: https://www.youtube.com/@markets Bloomberg Originals: https://www.youtube.com/bloomberg Quicktake: https://www.youtube.com/@BloombergQuicktake

Fed's Schmid Voted Against Rate Cut Because of Rising Inflation Concerns
Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City President Jeff Schmid voted against the US central bank's decision to cut interest rates this week. “I do not think a 25-basis point reduction in the policy rate will do much to address stresses in the labor market that more likely than not arise from structural changes in technology and demographics,” Schmid said. “However, a cut could have longer-lasting effects on inflation if the Fed’s commitment to its 2% inflation objective comes into question.” Bloomberg's Michael McKee reports. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? Amazon & Apple Lift Sentiment, Nvidia Hopes to Sell China Blackwell Chips | The Opening Trade 10/31
US stock futures advanced after strong earnings from Amazon and Apple. Amazon surged 12% in premarket trading on its fastest cloud-unit growth in nearly three years, while Apple gained on a revenue beat and upbeat holiday forecast. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang hopes to sell chips from the company's Blackwell lineup to customers in China someday. “No decisions have been made, and we’ll see how it turns out,” Huang said Friday in South Korea. The Nvidia chief said earlier this week that the company hasn’t applied for Washington’s permission to sell Blackwell chips to China, permits that are required under export controls first imposed in 2022.
