A 'Drop the Mic' Moment for Oracle, Dan Ives
Dan Ives, Global Head: Technology at Wedbush Securities, discusses Oracle's share surge after the company's strong outlook for its cloud business. Oracle Corp. shares gained the most since 1992 after the company gave an aggressive outlook for its cloud business, cementing the software maker’s place in the race to support demand for artificial intelligence computing. The stock surged as much as 41% Wednesday morning in New York, bringing its market valuation to $947 billion and co-founder Larry Ellison to within striking distance of Elon Musk as the world’s richest person. AI-related stocks such as chip developer Nvidia Corp. and Asian suppliers also climbed. Known for its database software, Oracle has recently found success in the red-hot cloud computing market and is emerging as a key provider of AI computing capacity, competing against cloud leaders Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google. Earlier this summer, it signed an unprecedented deal with ChatGPT operator OpenAI for 4.5 gigawatts’ worth of data center capacity — enough energy to power millions of American homes. It also counts Nvidia and ByteDance’s TikTok as major cloud customers. Such deals helped boost remaining performance obligations — a measure of bookings — to $455 billion at the end of the fiscal first quarter, Oracle said Tuesday. That’s more than four times higher than the same period a year earlier. It’s also roughly four times Google’s backlog, according to Bloomberg Intelligence, suggesting Oracle’s cloud-growth rate is poised to surpass Google’s.  “It was an astonishing quarter,” and demand for Oracle cloud infrastructure continues to build, Chief Executive Officer Safra Catz said. The company signed four multibillion-dollar contracts with three different customers in the quarter and expects to sign up several additional customers in the coming months, she added, pushing remaining performance obligations above $500 billion. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? Paramount Would Have to Add $10B To Succeed With WBD Bid, Says Gerber
Ross Gerber President and CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management says that Paramount would significantly raise the price they're offering to succeed in a Warner Bros. takeover, and that the higher price, could be good for Netflix. Paramount, the owner of its namesake studio and MTV, has been waging a public campaign to gather support for its proposal to buy Warner Bros., which owns HBO and CNN. Paramount went public with a $30-a-share cash bid on Dec. 8, three days after Warner Bros. accepted the deal with Netflix, which is only buying Warner Bros.’ studio and streaming businesses. Paramount has since amended its offer twice, most recently by including an assurance from billionaire Larry Ellison that he would personally guarantee $40.4 billion in equity financing and other commitments.  Paramount is controlled by Larry Ellison and his son David, a movie producer now assembling a media empire. The Ellisons took control of Paramount in August and have since submitted multiple bids for Warner Bros., which would give their undersized company another of Hollywood’s original studios and more scale in streaming. The Warner Bros. board remains unmoved and is waiting for Paramount to increase the financial terms of its offer, said the people. Several shareholders have said they expect Paramount to offer more money. The board is also concerned that the Paramount deal won’t allow the company to manage its debt without the Ellisons’ approval and that Paramount hasn’t guaranteed that it would cover the breakup fee that Warner Bros. would have to pay Netflix.  Warner Bros. has argued in public filings that it believes the Netflix offer is superior to the Paramount for a number of reasons, including that Paramount will be heavily indebted and plans to cut more jobs. Netflix is the most valuable company in Hollywood with a market value of more than $400 billion. -------- Watch Bloomberg Radio LIVE on YouTube Weekdays 7am-6pm ET WATCH HERE: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF Follow us on X: https://twitter.com/BloombergRadio Subscribe to our Podcasts: Bloomberg Daybreak: http://bit.ly/3DWYoAN Bloomberg Surveillance: http://bit.ly/3OPtReI Bloomberg Intelligence: http://bit.ly/3YrBfOi Balance of Power: http://bit.ly/3OO8eLC Bloomberg Businessweek: http://bit.ly/3IPl60i Listen on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the Bloomberg Business app: Apple CarPlay: https://apple.co/486mghI Android Auto: https://bit.ly/49benZy Visit our YouTube channels: Bloomberg Podcasts: https://www.youtube.com/bloombergpodcasts Bloomberg Television: https://www.youtube.com/@markets Bloomberg Originals: https://www.youtube.com/bloomberg Quicktake: https://www.youtube.com/@BloombergQuicktake

Tesla’s Dangerous Door Design Can Trap People Inside
Under Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, Tesla has built its reputation — and much of its trillion-dollar market value — on pathbreaking design, engineering excellence and an exceptional safety record. The company posted recently on X: “If you love them, put them in a Tesla.” But whereas Teslas fare well in government-administered crash tests, certain hallmarks of its vehicles — flush door handles, electrical power, mechanical releases — are flummoxing occupants and first responders. This can turn moments after crashes into deadly races against time. Bloomberg's Craig Trudell reports. -------- Watch Bloomberg Radio LIVE on YouTube Weekdays 7am-6pm ET WATCH HERE: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF Follow us on X: https://twitter.com/BloombergRadio Subscribe to our Podcasts: Bloomberg Daybreak: http://bit.ly/3DWYoAN Bloomberg Surveillance: http://bit.ly/3OPtReI Bloomberg Intelligence: http://bit.ly/3YrBfOi Balance of Power: http://bit.ly/3OO8eLC Bloomberg Businessweek: http://bit.ly/3IPl60i Listen on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the Bloomberg Business app: Apple CarPlay: https://apple.co/486mghI Android Auto: https://bit.ly/49benZy Visit our YouTube channels: Bloomberg Podcasts: https://www.youtube.com/bloombergpodcasts Bloomberg Television: https://www.youtube.com/@markets Bloomberg Originals: https://www.youtube.com/bloomberg Quicktake: https://www.youtube.com/@BloombergQuicktake

Stocks Slip on Last Day of Trading in 2025
Patrick Fruzzetti, Partner and Managing Director at Rose Advisors, discusses positioning portfolios for volatility as political risks rise. Stocks are ending a third year of double-digit gains in subdued fashion as an expected seasonal rally fails to gain traction. Silver’s volatile ride extended to another session. S&P 500 futures were little changed after a stretch of post-Christmas losses pared the benchmark’s advance for 2025 to 17%. Nasdaq 100 contracts were down 0.1%. Silver plunged as a run of price moves of 5% or more entered a fourth day. Investors have reaped strong returns this year in a market that has been powered by optimism about the vast economic potential of artificial intelligence. It hasn’t been a smooth ride, though, with traders weathering swings triggered by US trade policies, geopolitical tension and concern over lofty valuations. The year’s momentum has faded in the final days of December, with the so-called Santa Claus rally so far failing to take off as traders delay big decisions until after the holiday period, having already banked strong returns. “After an excellent year in equity markets, and with positioning close to highs in late November, portfolio and fund managers may have been closing their bets and realigning them to benchmark,” said Roberto Scholtes, head of strategy at Singular Bank. “Our base case is for the bull run to continue, albeit with more volatility and resulting in mid-single digit returns.” Gold and silver stumbled Wednesday in an otherwise banner year for precious metals. After an almost unstoppable rise, the two metals have recorded a series of swings in December and erased some gains as investors booked profits. Both commodities remain on track for their best year since 1979. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video?
