Click here to subscribe to our channel 👉🏽 http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica    In the transit town of Maai Mahiu, in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, undercover reporters expose two women exploiting children for sex - one claiming to have a girl as young as 13 years old. In Kenya, laws are in place to protect minors under the age of 18 from such threats with strong penalties for offenders, including imprisonment ranging from 10 years to life. The film also follows the work of a woman known as 'Baby Girl', who is on a mission to rescue, protect and empower girls escaping exploitation, towards a brighter future. Formerly a sex worker of 40 years, Baby Girl now supports her community in HIV prevention, assisted by US aid agency USAID. But as this funding comes to an end in Kenya, the future and security of those she helps protect is uncertain. The BBC gave all its evidence to the Kenyan police in March 2025. The BBC believe the madams have moved location since then. The police said the madams and young girls we filmed could not be traced. The BBC World Service has pieced together the stories of Layan al-Majdalawi, two, and Mira Tanboura, six, both killed in Gaza in separate incidents in November 2023, in areas where the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) was operating. The BBC has compiled material on over 160 cases where children have been shot in Gaza, and found that in 95 cases the child was shot in the head or chest. In most of these cases the victim was under 12 years old. The cases we found run from the first weeks of the war up to July this year. Israel does not allow foreign journalists to enter Gaza, and destruction and displacement make it difficult to gather material. The BBC’s Anne Soy has visited the garrison town of Gwoza, in north-eastern Nigeria. There, she witnessed the distribution of the World Food Programme’s last remaining aid for the region, due to decisions by Donald Trump's administration to cut financing for aid programmes, as well as cuts promoted by other Western governments such as that of the UK. The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations concluded over the weekend with Nigeria triumphing over hosts Morocco in the final. The tournament showed that progress continues on the pitch when it comes to the continent’s best female players. But off it, there were familiar challenges. The tournament saw empty stadiums, players going on strike over bonuses and a disparity in the prize pot for the women compared to the men. The small nation of Lesotho, one of the poorest countries in the world, is under threat of facing tariffs of up to 50% from Donald Trump's administration starting this August. The BBC has gained rare access to the Rubaya mining site in the conflict-hit east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a strategic area where coltan and other mineral extractions could potentially be a key US target. The recent peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda was meant to raise fresh hope for an end to hostilities in the eastern DRC, but there are still doubts over the prospects for peace anytime soon. Decades of fighting have killed millions, with rival armed groups imposing their dominance in strategic areas around the region. At the heart of the conflict are critical minerals which both sides are fighting to keep and control. The Super Falcons returned home to jubilant celebrations after winning their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title. In a dramatic final, Nigeria overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat hosts Morocco 3-2, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football. A photographer in Gaza has told the story of how he captured a series of harrowing photographs showing an emaciated child, Mohammed Zakariya. Ahmed al-Arini told BBC Newshour that he wanted to "show the rest of the world the extreme hunger" that babies and children are experiencing in the Gaza Strip. Rescue operations at an artisanal gold mine in the village of Lomera in DR Congo are continuing after a number of shafts collapsed over the weekend. Local reports say an unknown number of miners are trapped underground but the death toll is not yet known. The area is in South Kivu province and has been under the control of M23 rebels since they captured swathes of DR Congo's mineral-rich east earlier this year. Gold was discovered in December and thousands have flocked to the once quiet village to make their fortune.
