Huge Whip Spiders Wear Nail Polish for Science | Expedition Raw
"You can only describe the tropical whip spider as evolution’s perfect design for an arthropod killing machine," says Verner Bingman, a behavioral neuroscientist and National Geographic grantee. While whip spiders are arachnids that fall under the arthropod phylum, they're not actually spiders. Whip spiders have eight legs, but the front two have evolved into antenniform legs that extend up to two feet long. These legs wiggle around like whips to gather sensory information, earning whip spiders their name. The arachnids also have appendages called pedipalps, which Bingman describes as being like "pliers with sharp teeth." ➡ Subscribe: https://on.natgeo.com/4p5A0D6 ➡ Watch all clips of Expedition Raw here: http://bit.ly/WatchmoreExpeditionRaw ➡ Get More Expedition Raw on Youtube: http://bit.ly/NGExpeditionRaw About Expedition Raw: Surprises, challenges, and amazing behind-the-scenes moments captured by National Geographic explorers in the field. Apple Increases iPhone Production in India by 53%
Bloomberg Intelligence Technology Analyst Anurag Rana previews Oracle earnings and discusses Apple's shift to India for iPhone production. Apple Inc. increased iPhone production in India by about 53% last year and now makes a quarter of its marquee devices there, reflecting the US company’s efforts to avoid tariffs on China. The company assembled about 55 million iPhones in India in 2025, up from 36 million a year earlier, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be named because the numbers aren’t public. Apple makes about 220 million to 230 million iPhones a year globally, with India’s share of the total increasing rapidly. Apple has accelerated its expansion in the world’s most populous country in recent years, bolstered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s production-linked incentives aimed at turning India into the world’s factory. The subsidies have helped offset some of the structural cost disadvantages that manufacturers face in India, including the lack of a China-like robust supply chain and logistics challenges. In 2025, shipments from China, where Apple still makes the bulk of iPhones, faced headwinds as a result of US tariffs related to the two economic powers’ trade war. The levies pushed Apple and its suppliers to move a greater share of devices meant for the American market to alternative manufacturing destinations, with India emerging as a major brightspot. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? The large animals of Gorongosa National Park were nearly wiped out during the Mozambican civil war. Rediscovering Youth on the Colorado River | Short Film Showcase
In 1970, Forest Woodward’s father, Doug Woodward, led a trip down the Colorado River because water had always given him “a sense of wonder.” When Forest was born in 1986, Doug wrote his son a poem with the words “you always remember the path that leads you back to the important places.” In this short film produced by Gnarly Bay, Forest seeks to re-create his father's original trip down the river. By observing his father back in this important place, he hopes to learn some of life’s lessons. Seeing him “not just alive but living again,” Forest finds that “there is a hell of a lot more to come down the river” and that “the joy is in the journey.” Forest Woodward: http://www.forestwoodward.com/ Gnarly Bay: http://www.gnarlybay.com/ Q&A with Forest Woodward: http://voices.nationalgeographic.com/2015/08/05/short-film-showcase-rediscovering-youth-on-the-colorado-river/ ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Get More Short Film Showcase: http://bit.ly/ShortFilmShowcase About Short Film Showcase: A curated collection of the most captivating documentary shorts from filmmakers around the world. Oil Slides as Trump Seeks to Ease War Length Concerns
Francisco Blanch, Head: Global Commodities at Bank of America Securities, assesses the potential energy market impact of drawn-out conflict in the Middle East. Oil tumbled after US President Donald Trump said the Iran war will end soon, while the conflict continues to disrupt crude production and refining in the Middle East.  Global benchmark Brent fell as much as 11% before clawing back some losses, following a dramatic session on Monday that saw the biggest intraday price swing on record. Trump said he would resolve the war, waive oil-related sanctions and get the US Navy to escort tankers through the vital Strait of Hormuz. He told Fox News on Tuesday that he was also open to speaking with Iran.  Still, prices remain up by more than 50% this year as fears a conflict would hinder supplies from the Middle East increasingly materialize. Four of the region’s giants — Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait — have lowered their collective output by as much as 6.7 million barrels a day, with the war effectively closing the region’s main export route and causing storage tanks to fill up.
