The impact of climate change, however, nearly turned this serene environment deadly for National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Enric Sala . By removing human threats such as exploitation, fishing, mining, drilling, coastal development, and direct pollution, we can protect vast spaces of the ocean, which would lead to a healthier planet overall. “There is no more discussion about whether climate change exists. Now we're talking about the solutions. We need to make sure that people understand the urgency of the issue,” urges Sala. By working together, we can change the course. Darting at some bait set by the tour operators, the shark had enough momentum to break through the bars. After thrashing about for several seconds, the shark found its way out through the opened cage hatch. A diver had been in the cage, but avoided the shark by ducking out the hole created moments earlier. See How Life Has Changed in the Middle East Over 58 Years | Short Film Showcase
Colbert Held is a former United States Foreign Service officer who has amassed a photo collection spanning 48 years and 17 countries. He did so to have a detailed, photographic record of all the landscapes he visited, a complete geographical archive of his own. What's particular about his collection is that it captured the Middle Eastern history that escaped documentation. Viewed now, photographs from the past reveal an evolution from an "older" way of living to modernity—or a look back to better times pulverized by current wars. Filmed by Jennifer Smart in collaboration with the Middle East Institute, this short documentary was inspired by Baylor University's Oral Memoirs of Colbert Colgate "Cokie" Held. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Get More Short Film Showcase: http://bit.ly/ShortFilmShowcase About Short Film Showcase: The Short Film Showcase spotlights exceptional short videos created by filmmakers from around the web and selected by National Geographic editors.
