Convinced by his pastor to enlist, Alvin York ends up fighting in Argonne and receives the highest honors, such as the Medal of Honor and Croix de Guerre, for his exploits. On the same day, not far from Argonne, the infantryman Joseph Oklahombi performs an exceptional feat of arms by taking 171 German soldiers as prisoners. Being a Native American from the Choctaw tribe in Oklahoma – who were not recognized as American citizens at that time but invited to enlist all the same – he never received the Medal of Honor. Without ever meeting, these two men become the symbol of courage that young American volunteers showed in WWI. There's been growing anger among Ethiopians in and outside the country, about the way that some of their compatriots have been treated in Saudi Arabia. Things came to a head following an ultimatum for illegal migrant workers to leave the country. And there were clashes in Riyadh which led to several deaths last week. Rescue workers have found the bodies of ninety-two people who died in the desert of northern Niger when their vehicles broke down. Most of the victims were women and children and they're thought to have died from thirst. One eyewitness said the corpses were in a severe state of decomposition.
