Tensions are rising in Cameroon as the country awaits the results of the presidential polls. Opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary declared himself the winner of the election. Thousands of people gathered to watch the funeral service of the former prime minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga, in Bondo in the west of the country. It was preceded by three days of public events to honour the memory of one of Kenya's biggest political figures, who will be buried privately after the ceremony. Mr Odinga died last week aged 80, after a political career which saw him run unsuccessfully five times for president. Raila Odinga was one of Kenya's most influential and enduring political figures despite five unsuccessful presidential bids. For years, the firebrand politician emerged as a staunch campaigner and defender of multi-party democracy - adored by near-fanatical supporters and vilified by a threatened political elite. Fondly known as "Baba", meaning father, the veteran opposition leader died on Wednesday morning at the age of 80 in India, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. An army unit in Madagascar claimed it had taken over leadership of the military command and was now in control of all the armed forces. The office of President Andry Rajoelina has said an attempt to seize power illegally and by force is under way in the country.
